Brent International School Baguio is the oldest school of its type in the Philippines – if not, one of the oldest of such schools in Asia. We, thus constantly strive to build on tradition while looking to new opportunities and technologies to improve our programs.

Brent International School Baguio adheres to its founding guidelines: It provides for a co-educational, day and boarding school program within a liberal, Christian tradition. Reflecting our multinational faculty and student populations, the school prepares students for tertiary education in a range of top institutions around the world. The International Baccalaureate (I.B.) program is our exit examination at the end of Grade 12, and is internationally recognized, allowing our students to seek admission in almost all countries. The supporting curriculum, from PK to Grade 10, is not limited by country or culture, and is designed to be inquiry-based in all areas.

Curricula, as with all teaching practice, need to change over time, remaining abreast of the latest trends. Faculty over the next few years, in particular, will be involved in curricula review and revision, particularly as all Brent schools reflect more closely on their common heritage and goals.

Successful education is a synthesis of the efforts made by students, their families and faculty with support staff. We are confident that we all strive in partnership to achieve the best teaching/learning program possible, ensuring that our students are prepared to take their place and play their roles as responsible citizens, leaders in their communities and professions.

For additional information on curriculum, please feel free to contact the Director for Academic Affairs or heads of departments at any time.

“You can’t help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn’t spell it right; but spelling isn’t everything. There are days when spelling Tuesday simply doesn’t count.” Winnie the Pooh (A.A. Milne)

Lower School includes students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5. Generally, students are considered for Boarding from the Grade 5 level, but this is based on particular circumstances and availability of dorm space.

All classes are small, with teacher-pupil ratios below 15:1 in the lower grades, encouraging individual growth. Each class has a Homeroom teacher responsible for the pastoral care of students, and who keeps in close contact with parents. Homeroom classes meet daily, and are taught in their core subjects by the homeroom teachers, with other classes taught by specialist teachers.

There is much collaboration between your child’s homeroom teacher and the specialist teacher to ensure that topics of study are integrated into a variety of disciplines such as Art, Music, and Computer Studies.

The Brent curricula are revised regularly to ensure that we are up to date with new research and approaches to teaching and learning worldwide.

“No other age level is of more importance to the future of individuals, and, literally, to that of society, than adolescents; because these are the years when youngsters crystallize their beliefs about themselves and firm up their self concepts, their philosophies of life and their values - the things that are the ultimate determinants of their behaviors. “

“Understanding and Appreciating the Wonder Years”, John H. Lounsbury
